The BJP on Friday attacked Rahul Gandhi over his allegations of ‘vote theft’, citing a survey conducted by the Congress-led Karnataka government. The Karnataka government on Thursday released the results of a survey on the Lok Sabha elections 2024, which showed that a majority of voters trust electronic voting machines (EVMs) and believe that the elections are ‘free and fair’. A survey by a Karnataka government agency has claimed that 91% of the people of the state believe that elections in India are conducted in a free and fair manner and EVMs give accurate results.

‘EVM is most reliable in a democratic system’

BJP leader Suresh Kumar said, “This survey conducted in Karnataka is enough to show that EVM is the most reliable and effective medium in the democratic system. This survey has exposed the hollow claims of Rahul Gandhi.

In a Poonawala said that the survey has claimed that voters in Karnataka trust EVMs and believe that elections in India are free and fair.

Poonwala said, “‘A majority of respondents across all divisions believe that elections in India are conducted in a free and fair manner,’ the survey found, with 84.55% of citizens agreeing. The survey found 83.61% of citizens believed that EVMs are trustworthy.” In fact, the survey said more citizens trust EVMs, increasing from 77.9% in 2023. Now it is 83.61%.

BJP leader R Ashok, leader of opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, also cited the survey to target Rahul Gandhi and said it was a slap on the face of the Congress. He said that the old party is only showing its insecurity by doubting EVM and the Election Commission. He wrote on

What came out in the survey?

The survey titled “Lok Sabha Elections 2024 – Evaluation of Endline Survey of Citizens’ Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP)” was published by Karnataka Monitoring and Evaluation Authority (KMEA) and polled 5,100 people across 102 assembly constituencies. Of these, 91.31% believed that elections in India are fair. It also said that 83.61 percent people have faith in EVMs.

“Of the 4,272 people who were included in the voter list, the majority (95.44%) across all divisions confirmed that their names were correctly included in the list,” the survey said.
