New Delhi: The Indian Army has taken a big step by saying goodbye to the colonial legacy. The Army has changed the names of 246 roads, buildings and other places in different cities. Now their new names have been kept in honor of India’s gallantry award winning soldiers, war heroes and prominent military leaders. It is being said that this will increase the sense of pride in national heritage and values ​​of service. Under this, the Army has changed the names of 124 roads, 77 colonies, 27 buildings and other military facilities and 18 parks and playgrounds etc.

Names kept from Arun Khetarpal to Abdul Hameed

Indian Army officials say this change is an important part of honoring the legacy of the country’s heroes. Major places whose names have been changed include:

1. Delhi Cantonment: Kirby Place, the officers’ residence here, has been renamed Kenugurusay Vihar. Mall Road will now be named Arun Khetrapal Marg.
2. Ambala Cantonment: Patterson Road Quarters has been renamed Dhan Singh Thapa Enclave.
3. Mathura Cantonment: New Horn Line will now be named Abdul Hameed Lines.
4. Jaipur Cantonment: Queens Line Road has been renamed as Sunder Singh Marg.
5. Bareilly Cantonment: New Birdwood Line will now be named Thimayya Colony.
6. Mhow Cantonment: Malcom Lines has been renamed as Piru Singh Lines.
7. Dehradun (Indian Military Academy): Collins Block will now be named Nubra Block. Kingsway Block has been renamed as Kargil Block.
8. Kolkata: Fort William will now be named Vijay Durg.
9. Rangpahar Military Station: The name of the sports complex has been changed to Laishram Jyotin Singh Sports Complex.
10. Jakhama Military Station: Spear Lake Road will now be named Hangpan Dada Road.
