An American court has sentenced Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta to 24 years in prison for allegedly conspiring to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. Gupta has pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit money laundering. In these cases, he may be sentenced to 24 years’ imprisonment, the formal announcement of which will be made on May 29.

The prosecution accused Gupta of conspiring with an Indian official to murder Pannu. According to the report, Gupta worked closely with others in India and elsewhere, including Vikas Yadav. At Yadav’s behest, Gupta contacted a man who was a source working with a US agency to help him hire a hitman to murder Pannu.
