It was a big news that the Indian movie ‘Homebound’ made it to the final fifteen list of Oscars. But that movie failed to reach the nomination stage. But now without Sadde, Indian cinema has won an international film award as important as an Oscar. Many dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have congratulated the film for its technical excellence.
Manipuri movie ‘Boong’ has won the prestigious BAFTA award. A film from Manipur, which has recently been in international news due to internal conflict, human rights violations, violence, etc., has been congratulated by several dignitaries for winning an international award. The film ‘Boong’ won the ‘Best Children and Family Film’ award at the prestigious BAFTA Awards held in London.
Boong Manipuri movie is directed by Laxmipriya Devi and this is her first movie. The movie is produced by famous Bollywood actor and director Farhan Akhtar along with Ritesh Sidhwani, Vikesh Bhutani, Alan McAlex and Shujaat Saudagar in the co-production team. The film revolves around Boong, a schoolboy from Manipur. The film follows his adventurous and emotional journey to reunite his fractured family amid ethnic conflict and border challenges.
While receiving the award at the ceremony held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, director Lakshmipriya Devi spoke about the ongoing conflicts in Manipur, ‘We pray for peace in Manipur again. May the children who lost their homes due to the conflict and the child actors who acted in this film find their childhood happiness and dreams again,’ he appealed for peace and said, ‘Forgiveness is the greatest power of man, no conflict can destroy that power.’

‘Boong’ was up against international hits like ‘Zootopia 2’, ‘Lilo and Stitch’ and French sci-fi film ‘Arco’ for the honour. The movie ‘Zootopia 2’ is a huge budget movie that has earned more than 16 thousand crores at the worldwide box office, but even so, the movie ‘Boong’, which has a very small budget, has won everyone’s attention.
Boong was first screened at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. It was later screened at Warsaw, Mumbai, Goa and Melbourne film festivals to critical acclaim. Gugun Kipjen, Bala Hijam Ningthoujam and Angom Sanamatham play the lead roles in the film. The Chief Minister of Manipur described this victory as a moment of pride for the entire country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted about the movie ‘Boong’ and said, ‘Congratulations to everyone who identified with this movie. It is indeed a moment of great joy, especially a matter of pride for Manipur. It highlights the immense creative talent in our country.
