Indian Railways changed ticket booking rules from today

What is the news?

Indian Railways has made a major change in the rules of ticket booking from today (January 12). Now it has become even more important for passengers booking reserved tickets through IRCTC to have an Aadhaar linked account. The objective of this decision is to provide the benefit of ticket booking to genuine passengers and to prevent misuse of the system by brokers. This change has come into effect from the first day of the advance reservation period.

From today, the first day of advance reservation period, only IRCTC users verified with Aadhaar card will be able to book reserved tickets online. Now from 08:00 am to 12:00 midnight only Aadhaar-authenticated users will be able to make general reservations. Earlier this facility was for limited time, but now it has been implemented throughout the day. Railways believes that this will curb black marketing of tickets.

new system

New system implemented in phases

Railways has implemented this change in a phased manner. From December 29, this time was till 12:00 am, from January 5 it was increased to 04:00 am and now from January 12, it has been completely extended till 12:00 am. This means that from today, online tickets will be booked only through Aadhaar-linked accounts throughout the day. However, there has been no change in the rules for collecting tickets from the computerized PRS counter.
