What is the news?

Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium is set to host some matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Actually, the Karnataka government has given the final approval to Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to organize IPL 2026 matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Let us tell you that the first match of the season between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 28 is to be played on this ground.

Renovation work has been done in the stadium

As per the recommendations of the Justice de Cunha Committee, the board had a deadline of March 15 to complete the renovation work. These recommendations were implemented after the tragic incident of stampede that occurred after RCB won the maiden IPL title in the city. Improvement work on the stadium began after the KSCA elections in December 2025. Venkatesh Prasad’s committee is in constant touch with the government regarding many different aspects of the renovation.

Matches were not played in Chinnaswamy after this accident.

No matches were held at the stadium after more than 10 people died in a stampede during RCB’s trophy win celebrations last year. Even the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches were not given to this ground and the matches were held at the BCCI Center of Excellence Stadium. Last year, Bengaluru was also deprived of hosting the Women’s World Cup and did not get a match in the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup.
