Kashmiri separatist leader Shabbir Shah gets bail, accused in terror funding case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to Kashmiri separatist leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah. This decision has come in the terror funding case related to Jammu and Kashmir. The Supreme Court has said that the bail of Shabbir Ahmed Shah is being approved. The court also informed that a detailed order on bail will be issued soon with certain conditions. What will be included in these conditions will be clear in the order. Let us tell you that Shabbir Ahmed Shah was accused by NIA of being involved in funding terrorist activities.

Shabbir was born in a businessman family

Let us tell you that Shabbir Shah was born on 14 June 1953 in a businessman family in Kadipora village of Anantnag district of South Kashmir. His father Ghulam Mohammad Warrier was a block development officer who died in police custody in 1989. Shah’s political career started at a very young age. In 1968, at the age of just 14, he led a protest against the Indian government, for which he was arrested and imprisoned for 3 months. After this, he formed the Young Men League with his colleagues, but he was repeatedly arrested, due to which his studies remained incomplete.

Came in contact with separatist leaders in jail

Shabbir Shah came in contact with many separatist leaders in Srinagar’s Central Jail. In 1974, his colleagues formed the Jammu and Kashmir People’s League. In 1998, Shabbir Shah founded JKDFP. He has been facing continuous jail, detention and house arrest since 1968. Many times he was arrested under Defense of India Rules and other laws. He was also jailed for opposing the Indira-Sheikh Accord in 1975. He remained underground in 1988–89, but was arrested in 1989. In 2017, he resigned from the post of secretary of Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
