When was the proposal sent?
Let us tell you that the Kerala Assembly had passed a resolution with consensus on June 24 in the year 2024 and had appealed to the Central Government to officially change the name of Kerala to Keralam. On this proposal sent by the Legislative Assembly, the Union Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday has now approved changing the name of Kerala to Keralam.

The resolution to change the name of the state was passed for the second time by the Kerala Assembly. Earlier in August 2023, the Kerala Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution to change the name of the state and sent it to the Centre. However, the Union Home Ministry, while reviewing the proposal, had suggested making some technical changes in it. According to the information, this proposal was presented by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He had demanded from the Central Government that the name of Kerala should be changed to ‘Keralaam’ in all the languages included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. (input language)
