What is news?
A big picture has been revealed from Mumbai before the civic elections in Maharashtra. 20 years later, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray have appeared on a platform. The two leaders took out a ‘Vijay rally’ on ‘Marathi unity’ in Worli, Mumbai. This rally has been taken out amidst the ongoing language dispute in Maharashtra. However, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)- Sharad did not attend this rally.
Reason
Why are Thackeray brothers taking out a rally?
In April, the Maharashtra government made Hindi the third compulsory language from class I to 5th in all Marathi and English schools. This decision was taken in the National Education Policy in accordance with the Tri-Language Policy. Many opposition leaders including the Thackeray brothers turned against it. Both brothers had announced to take out a rally against this. However, after the dispute escalated, the Government of Maharashtra has withdrawn the Hindi compulsory order.

Controversy
Why did Uddhav and Raj Thackeray separate?
Raj is the nephew of Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena. At one time, Raj’s Shiv Sena had number 2 status. It was believed that Raj would take command of the party later. However, Raj resigned from Shiv Sena on 27 November 2005, angry with Balasaheb’s decision to declare Uddhav a successor. He then formed his party Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena (MNS). In recent times, there have been signs of reconciliation between the two leaders.
