Chip manufacturing company MediaTek is working with Elon Musk’s Starlink Mobile to provide the facility of emergency alert messages through satellite. The purpose of this technology is that in case of emergency, people can get immediate warning message. The company said that till now more than 44 lakh people have used Starlink mobile service during the emergency. This feature is already available in many countries.

According to the company, this new technology will be able to work even when the user is out of the range of the mobile tower. This means that even if the network is not available in any area, the alert message will still reach the phone through satellite. This feature was shown on devices with MediaTek’s M90 modem. This modem supports modern connectivity technology and can help in providing essential information to people in case of emergency.

Alert messages will be received from different systems
According to MediaTek, through this technology, users can get alerts from three different systems. These include Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA), Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) and Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System (ETWS). These systems are used in many countries to immediately warn people in case of disaster or danger, so that precautions can be taken in time and losses can be reduced.

MediaTek has also introduced some other new technologies at Mobile World Congress 2026. The company showcased privacy-focused Artificial Intelligence (AI) glasses that can perform multiple tasks with the help of smartphone chipsets. Apart from this, the company also showed off the new ‘Extreme Zoom’ feature for the smartphone. The company claims that this technology can help in capturing even distant objects very clearly.
