Indore: An epidemic of diarrhea and vomiting has spread due to contaminated drinking water in Indore, the cleanest city of the country. Due to this, at least 15 people have died and more than 1400 people have fallen ill. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has taken a tough stand on this issue and targeted the BJP government of the state. He termed it as negligence of the government and demanded action against the responsible officers and leaders. The incident has shaken the entire city, as Indore has been voted the cleanest city of India for the last 8 years continuously.
‘When will action be taken against responsible officers and leaders?’
Rahul Gandhi said in a post on ‘X’, ‘There was no water in Indore, poison was distributed and the administration remained in Kumbhakarni sleep. There is mourning in every house, the poor are helpless and on top of that the arrogant statements of BJP leaders. Those in whose homes the stoves had gone out needed solace; The government acted arrogantly. People repeatedly complained about dirty, smelly water, yet why was there no hearing? How did sewerage get into drinking water? Why was the supply not stopped in time? When will action be taken against responsible officers and leaders?
‘Madhya Pradesh has now become the epicenter of misadministration’
Rahul Gandhi further said, ‘This is not a ‘focus’ question, it is a demand for accountability. Clean water is not a favor, it is a right to life. And BJP’s double engine, its careless administration and insensitive leadership are completely responsible for the murder of this right. Madhya Pradesh has now become the epicenter of maladministration, at some places there are deaths due to cough syrup, at some places there are rats killing children in government hospitals, and now there are deaths due to drinking water mixed with sewerage. And whenever the poor die, Modi ji remains silent as always.
‘The water had become dirty due to leakage in the pipeline’
Indore’s Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Madhav Prasad Hasani said on Thursday that the lab report of a medical college in the city has revealed that the water in Bhagirathpura area had become dirty due to leakage in the drinking water pipeline. The epidemic started from this area. Dr Hassani did not elaborate on the findings of the report, but officials said a leak was found in a main water pipeline near a police post in Bhagirathpura. A toilet has been built just above that place. He claimed that due to this leakage the water supply of the area became dirty.
‘Drinking water being dirty is the reason for the spread of the epidemic’
A laboratory test has confirmed that the reason for the epidemic of diarrhea and vomiting is dirty drinking water. A health department official said that on Thursday, 1714 houses of Bhagirathpura were surveyed in which 8571 people were examined. Of these, 338 people had mild symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea, who were given first aid at home. He said that in the 8 days since the pandemic started, a total of 272 patients were admitted to local hospitals, out of which 71 have been discharged so far. At present 201 patients are admitted in hospitals, out of which 32 have been kept in ICU due to their critical condition.
