Now SIR will be there in 22 states and union territories, Election Commission asked to be ready

The Election Commission of India has conducted the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in various states and union territories of the country like Bihar, UP, Tamil Nadu, Bengal etc. Let us tell you that the objective of SIR is to ensure that the names of all eligible citizens are included in the voter list and they can exercise their right to vote. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has now made preparations for special intensive revision in 22 states and union territories of the country. The Commission has asked these states to complete the preparation work related to SIR as soon as possible.

What did the Election Commission say?

The Election Commission of India has asked the remaining states to start preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The Commission has directed officials to prepare for SIR starting from April 2026. Under this special intensive revision, the voter list will be revised and new voters will be registered. The Commission has also prepared a detailed schedule for this, which includes draft publication of the voter list, receiving claims and objections, and final publication of the voter list.

SIR will be in these states

The Election Commission of India is likely to conduct special intensive revision of voter lists in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Telangana and Uttarakhand in the coming month of April.

SIR’s order came in June last year

After the completion of the special intensive review (SIR) process of these 22 states and union territories, all the states and union territories of India will come under the purview of SIR. The Election Commission has said that the order for SIR of voter list all over India was given in the month of June last year. Let us tell you that the SIR process has been completed in Bihar and the process is still going on in 9 states and 3 union territories. At the same time, in Assam, instead of SIR, ‘special review’ has been done which was completed on 10 February.
