Bhubaneswar: A major accident took place in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar on Monday night. A massive fire broke out late night in a supermarket located near Lingipur area. This incident spread panic in the surrounding area and property worth lakhs of rupees was burnt to ashes.
According to the information, the fire suddenly broke out from the third floor of the multi-storey building at around 10 pm. Within no time the flames started spreading rapidly. It is being told that a large quantity of plastic and other flammable household items were kept on the third floor, due to which the fire took a huge form within a few minutes.
The fire could not be controlled even after 11 hours
As soon as the fire broke out, thick smoke started coming out from the building, which was visible from a distance. Nearby local people immediately informed the fire department. As soon as the information was received, several fire engines reached the spot and the operation to extinguish the fire was started. Fire fighters are having to work hard to control the fire. The intensity of the fire is so high that it is taking more than 11 hours to extinguish it. The fire has not been completely controlled yet. Large stocks of plastic and other inflammable materials are causing frequent fires, creating problems for relief efforts.
No casualties reported
At the time of the incident, information was received that some people were trapped on the third floor. The fire team took immediate action and pulled them out safely. It is a matter of relief that till now there has been no news of anyone being injured in this accident. A large quantity of plastic items, steel utensils and other household items were destroyed in the fire. Due to this the supermarket owner has suffered a loss of lakhs of rupees. Although the exact cause of the fire is not yet known, but initial suspicion is that the accident may have happened due to short circuit.
