Cuttack: The firing incident that took place in broad daylight on Wednesday in Nuapada Press Colony area of Cuttack, Odisha, shocked the entire area. The place where people were busy socializing and feasting, within a few moments there was an atmosphere of shouting and chaos.
According to the information, some youth had gathered in the area to attend a banquet. Meanwhile suddenly an unknown assailant opened fire. During the firing, a young man named Soumya Ranjan Jena got shot near his chest. As soon as the bullet was fired, the people present at the spot started running here and there to save their lives.
Soumya Ranjan was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in injured condition. Doctors tried their best to save him, but his condition was critical and he eventually died during treatment. As soon as this news spread, an atmosphere of mourning and fear was created in the area.
Police started investigation
As soon as information about the incident was received, the police of the concerned police station reached the spot and started investigation. The place where this incident is reported to have taken place has been cordoned off by the police. Police are investigating the matter from every angle, which also includes the possibility of personal rivalry or some kind of dispute.
ACP Ashok Kumar Giri’s statement came out
ACP Ashok Kumar Giri said that he received information about the incident between 4 and 4:30 pm, while the incident is said to have happened between 1:30 and 2 pm. They had received information that a person named Soumya Ranjan Jena had been injured. He said that the investigation is still going on and no clear reason has emerged so far.
The ACP also said that the injury suffered by the youth seems a bit suspicious, hence the investigation is being done on that basis. Police are interrogating some suspicious people and one or two persons have also been detained. However, the identity of the attacker and the real reason behind the firing have not been revealed yet. Police have also received information that some kind of banquet was going on there. This aspect is also being investigated.
The people of Nuapada Press Colony are in panic due to this incident which happened in broad daylight. This kind of incident has shaken people in an area that is generally considered peaceful.
