Former Army Chief M.M. Amidst the controversy over Naravane’s book – Four Stars of Destiny, publisher Penguin Random House India has issued its second clarification within 24 hours. Penguin has clarified that the book in question has not been published yet.

In its latest statement, Penguin Random House India said that the announced book, the book available for pre-order and the published book are not the same. The company reiterated that a book is considered published only when it is formally released and available for sale on all retail platforms.

What did Penguin say in his first statement?

Earlier, Penguin Random House India had said in its statement that it has the exclusive publishing rights of former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane’s book ‘Four Stars of Destiny’, and clarified that this book has not been published yet amid reports of circulation of unauthorized copies. The copies available in the market are illegal and a violation of copyright.

Delhi Police registered FIR in the case

This clarification from the company came after Delhi Police has registered an FIR in this matter. Police had received information that a PDF copy (type-set copy) of this book was circulating on social media and some websites without permission. Since General Naravane has been the Army Chief, it is mandatory for the manuscript of his book to get approval from the Defense Ministry. The Special Cell of Delhi Police is investigating whether it is a data leak or a violation of security rules.

This book was mentioned in Parliament

The issue took a political turn last week when Rahul Gandhi mentioned the book in Parliament. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in the House that no such book currently exists because it has not been approved. There was a huge uproar in the Lok Sabha over the issue, resulting in the suspension of eight MPs for the remainder of the budget session.
