Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived today to give many big gifts to Assam. PM Modi has inaugurated the Northeast’s first emergency landing facility on the National Highway in Dibrugarh. PM Modi himself has landed on the highway in a Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft. PM Modi is going to be on Assam tour today.

While inaugurating the emergency landing facility on the National Highway, Indian Air Force aircraft are taking off from here and showing their prowess in the sky. These include fighter aircraft, transport aircraft and helicopters. The nearest distance from Dibrugarh to the India-China border (Mahamon Line/LAC in Arunachal Pradesh part) is about 250-300 kilometers.

Giving more details about today’s visit, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, ‘Moran emergency landing facility will be inaugurated by PM Modi on 14 February. From the trial phase to successful operations, a new chapter of connectivity and strategic strength is taking shape.

Planes will be able to fly if needed in future

The CM credited Prime Minister Modi for strengthening the country’s defense preparedness and creating infrastructure to deal with any situation. He said, ‘Thanks to the Moran ELF missile system, Indian Air Force aircraft will be able to operate when needed and Assam is happy to contribute to this strategic vision.’

Airstrip built on 4.2 kilometer long area

The 4.2 km long reinforced concrete stretch on the Dibrugarh-Moran section of National Highway 127 has been developed as a dual-use airstrip (ELF) in coordination with the Indian Air Force. It is the first of its kind highway airstrip in the North-East that will be capable of handling fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters during emergencies and strategic contingencies.

Launch of projects worth more than Rs 5,450 crore

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will also launch and inaugurate projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore in Assam. After the Moran event, he will travel to Guwahati, where he will inspect the Kumar Bhaskar Verma Bridge over the Brahmaputra River.

Will also flag off 225 electric buses

Will inaugurate the National Data Center for the North-Eastern Region at Amingaon. Will inaugurate IIM Guwahati and flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus service scheme. After this he will return to New Delhi.
