What did Prime Minister Modi say?

Prime Minister Modi wrote on X, ‘This is shameful and unprecedented. Everyone who believes in democracy and empowerment of tribal communities is disappointed. The pain and sorrow of the tribal community itself expressed by President Murmu has deeply saddened the hearts of the people of India. He further wrote, ‘The TMC government of West Bengal has crossed all limits with this incident. His administration is responsible for this insult to the President.

Prime Minister Modi called the incident unfortunate

Criticizing the state government’s attitude towards tribal culture, Prime Minister Modi further wrote, ‘It is equally unfortunate that the West Bengal government is treating an important subject like Santhal culture so carelessly.’ He further wrote, ‘The post of President is above politics and the dignity of this post should always be respected. It is hoped that the spirit of improvement will awaken in the West Bengal government and TMC.

BJP accused of insulting the highest constitutional post

BJP also reacted to this matter and accused the state government of insulting the highest constitutional post of the country. BJP’s West Bengal unit wrote on Twitter, ‘When a state government shows such disregard for the dignity of the office of the President of India, it is more than an administrative lapse. This is a sign of deep erosion of constitutional propriety and governance. This is a grave insult to the President.

What is the whole matter of insulting the President?

The political controversy started when President Murmu, during his visit to the state on Saturday, questioned the arrangements for the 9th International Santal Conference organized by the International Santal Council in Siliguri. “Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is like my younger sister. Maybe she is angry. I don’t know why she decided to hold an international event at such a small venue. If the venue was bigger, more people would have attended,” he said at the event.

President Murmu also mentioned the lapse in protocol

President Murmu also compared the venue to Bidhannagar and said that if the conference had been held there, about 5 lakh people could have attended it and they would have definitely benefited from it. He also pointed to the lapse in protocol during the visit, saying, “Neither Mamata Banerjee nor any minister of state welcomed him. This has been very strange.”
