Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with all Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to discuss India’s preparedness for the current situation in West Asia. In the meeting held through video conferencing, he stressed the need for vigilance, coordination and quick response to emerging challenges. He expressed confidence that the country will deal with this crisis situation and lockdown will not be imposed.
Prime Minister Modi reminded of the Corona epidemic
Prime Minister Modi reminded the country of the ability to reduce the disruptions caused by the coordinated efforts of the Central and State Governments during the Corona virus epidemic and said that the country will overcome this crisis too. He said that since March 3, an inter-ministerial group has been reviewing the developments daily. He also underlined the key priorities of the government such as maintaining economic and trade stability, ensuring energy security, protecting the interests of citizens.
Prime Minister Modi appealed to be cautious of rumors
Prime Minister Modi also stressed the need for advance planning in the agriculture sector, including monitoring of fertilizer storage and distribution before the Kharif season. He appealed to all citizens not to believe in rumors like lockdown and to be alert against fake news and misinformation being spread on other platforms including social media. Similarly, he also advised the countrymen to be cautious of online fraud and fake agents.
Instructions to states to stop hoarding
Prime Minister Modi urged states to ensure smooth functioning of supply chains and take strict action against hoarding and profiteering. He called for activation of control rooms at the state and district levels and stressed on administrative vigilance to prevent disruptions. He said special attention should be given to border and coastal states for issues related to shipping, essential supplies and maritime operations.
Call for setting up a strong coordination mechanism
Prime Minister Modi called for establishing strong coordination mechanisms at all levels, including regular reviews by senior officials and continuous monitoring at the district level. Furthermore, he urged States to establish helplines and support systems for citizens in West Asia, to ensure timely assistance to affected families. He also appealed to all the Chief Ministers to adopt a cooperative attitude in this situation.
