Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has demanded to give Bharat Ratna to Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram. He has put forward his demand by writing a letter to PM Modi. Rahul Gandhi has been making statements in support of Kanshi Ram for many days. Earlier he had said that if Nehru had been alive, Kanshi Ram would have been made the Chief Minister by Congress. However, the UP government minister said that Kanshi Ram had formed Bahujan Samaj Party in protest against Congress.
Rahul Gandhi had claimed on Friday that if India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had been alive, Kanshi Ram would have been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from the Congress side. However, he also said that if Congress had done its work properly, Kanshi Ram would never have been successful. Nehru died in 1964. Kanshi Ram emerged in the political scene in 1978 with the establishment of BAMCEF, an organization advocating the interests of backward classes. After this he formed Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 1984.
If Congress had done its job properly, Kanshi Ram would not have been successful.
Rahul Gandhi praised Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram in the Constitution Conference organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, two days before Kanshi Ram’s birth anniversary (March 15). Rahul said, “Kanshi Ram ji used to talk about equality in the society. Congress could not do its work completely. That is why Kanshi Ram ji was successful. If Congress had worked properly, Kanshi Ram ji would never have been successful.” He said, “If Jawahar Lal Nehru ji had been alive, Kanshi Ram ji would have been the Chief Minister of the Congress.”
BJP accused of ignoring 85 percent population
Rahul alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party government has ignored 85 percent of the population. Rahul said, “The Constitution says that this country belongs to everyone and all people are equal, but today the society has been divided into 15 and 85 percent and only 15 percent people are getting the benefits.” He said that there is a big difference between Mahatma Gandhi, Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram and Savarkar. Explaining this, he said, “Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi) ji remained in jail for 10-15 years, but he did not compromise. Babasaheb Ambedkar dedicated his life, but did not compromise. Kanshi Ram never compromised in his life because he could not do so.” The program was organized at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in collaboration with the Backward Class (OBC) and Scheduled Caste (SC) departments of the Congress and the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. The party passed a resolution from the stage demanding posthumous award of Bharat Ratna to Kanshi Ram. This step of Congress is being considered as part of the strategy to attract Dalits in the 2027 elections.
