Congress suffered two major setbacks in Assam, Congress MP from Nagaon Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the party and joined BJP. His son Prateek Bordoloi wrote a letter to the Congress President and announced his withdrawal from the Assembly candidature. State Congress Vice President Navjyoti Talukdar has also announced to leave the party and is also going to join BJP. On Thursday, BJP released the list of its 88 candidates in Assam. Pradyut Bordoloi will contest from Dispur and Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma will contest from Jalukbari. Former Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Kumar Bora, who joined BJP last month, has also been given the ticket. Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma said, “You see, now there will be no big Hindu leader left in Congress because all the leaders are upset with the appeasement policy of Congress and are in tension due to its impact on the demography of Assam.” This time in Assam, BJP will contest 89 seats out of total 126, the remaining 37 seats have been left for allies. Of these, 26 seats have been given to Assam Gana Parishad and 11 seats have been given to Bodoland People’s Front.

Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma had reached Delhi on Tuesday itself to include Bordoloi in BJP. He talked to Pradyut Bordoloi the same night, the next day Pradyut again met Himanta Vishwa Sharma and Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia and joined BJP. After this, Himanta Vishwa Sharma got Pradyut to meet Home Minister Amit Shah. After joining BJP, Pradyut Bordoloi said, he is an old Congressman, Congress is in his DNA, but in the last few years, he has been marginalized by the party, he was repeatedly insulted, his views were not heard in the distribution of assembly tickets. Congress has formed a screening committee under the chairmanship of Priyanka Gandhi regarding distribution of tickets in Assam. Saharanpur MP Imran Masood is also in this committee. When Pradyut Bordoloi attacked Imran Masood by name, Imran Masood said that Pradyut should not forget that he became MP with the votes of Muslims, Nagaon has 65 percent Muslims, most of whom voted against BJP in the last Lok Sabha elections.

In response, Pradyut Bordoloi said, “Imran Masood is sectarian, his mind is filled with the poison of hatred, he insults Vande Mataram, supports people with criminal image in the screening committee, but the Congress high command remains ignorant despite knowing everything.” Congress tried its best to stop and persuade Pradyut Bordoloi. Congress in-charge Bhanwar Jitendra Singh and Gaurav Gogoi met Pradyut Bordoloi. Priyanka Gandhi said that Pradyut’s resentment is sad, it is just a ticket issue, this issue could have been discussed. But when Pradyut did not agree and joined BJP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “After all, ideology is also a thing.”

Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma said that no matter what the Congress leaders claim, the power of the Congress has ended in Assam and the few good leaders left also want to join the BJP. After Bhupen Bora, Pradyut Bordoloi joining BJP is a big success for Himanta Vishwa Sharma. Pradyut Bordoloi won the election from a seat with 65 percent Muslim population. He has won the assembly elections four times in a row and has won the Lok Sabha elections twice on Congress ticket, so Congress will definitely get a shock. Himanta Vishwa Sharma had said two months ago that there will be no big Hindu leader left in Congress. The whole world knew what was going to happen. Only the Congress leadership did not know what was happening internally. Whenever elections come, Congress leaders run away from the party and Congress becomes silent by accusing BJP of horse-trading and then tries to avoid the issue by saying that the departure of one or two leaders does not make any difference. But when the election results come, it is clearly visible how much difference it made and how the leadership failed? (Rajat Sharma)
