Biju Janata Dal i.e. BJD has declared the names of its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. This time, the party has given a clear message by fielding two experienced faces from the health and corporate sectors, Dr. Datteshwar Hota and Dr. Santrupta Mishra, that it wants to give priority to expertise and experience in Parliament.
Who is Dr. Santrupta Mishra?
Dr. Santrupta Mishra is an experienced global business leader. After working in the corporate world for nearly four decades, he recently entered politics. He held the post of Group Director (Human Resources) in Aditya Birla Group. Apart from this, he also held important positions like CEO of Birla Carbon and Director of the Group’s Chemicals Business. He also has a very strong background from educational point of view. He holds a PhD in Public Administration from Utkal University and a PhD in Industrial Relations from Aston Business School.
Santrupta Mishra joined BJD in early 2024 and was appointed the national spokesperson of the party. He has also contested the 2024 general elections as a BJD candidate from Cuttack Lok Sabha seat. Apart from this he has also contributed to national institutions. He has been the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of NIT Rourkela and has also served as a Director on the Board of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation i.e. ONGC.
Who is Dr. Datteshwar Hota?
Dr. Datteshwar Hota is a well-known medical expert of Odisha. He has vast experience especially in the field of Urology. He has served the health sector of the state for many years and has played an important role in the development of medical education.
He has held the post of Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) in the Government of Odisha, where he supervised the medical curriculum and institutional development of the state. Apart from this, he has also been the Dean and Principal of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, which is counted among the major government medical institutions of Eastern India. His candidature is being seen as a tribute to the state’s professional and academic community.
BJD gave a big message
It is clear from this announcement of BJD that the party wants to move beyond traditional politics and send experienced people from different fields to Rajya Sabha. Through these names related to both health and industry sectors, the party is trying to make the voice of Odisha more effective in national policy making. Party leaders believe that the balance of professional experience and political responsibility will help in strongly representing the interests of the state in Parliament.
