Rahul Gandhi vs Ravi Shankar Prasad: There was a heated debate in Parliament on Wednesday during the discussion on the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi interrupted senior BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad and said that he was stopped from speaking several times. Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back strongly after Rahul Gandhi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ‘compromised’ and raised the book of former Army Chief General MM Naravane and the Epstein case.

‘PM Modi can never be compromised’

Rahul Gandhi said, ‘I was stopped from speaking many times. Last time I raised the issue of the Prime Minister being compromised. I raised the issue of Naravane. I raised the issue of Epstein. I was silenced. Our Prime Minister is compromised and knows it all. Ravi Shankar Prasad completely rejected Rahul’s allegations and said, ‘I want to remind the Leader of Opposition that Prime Minister Narendra Modi can never be compromised. I would like to add one more thing, is debate allowed in Point of Order? Not there.’

Ravi Shankar Prasad raised questions on no-confidence motion

Ravi Shankar Prasad also raised questions on the no-confidence motion brought against the Speaker. He said, ‘I am not able to understand this proposal. Gaurav Gogoi had asked what is the problem in citing the book? That book which was never published, is just circulating. How can one prove this? I appeal to the opposition not to use the proceedings of Parliament to satisfy the ego of a leader. Do not make this weapon of the opposition against the Speaker a weapon to satisfy the ego of any leader.

After all, what is this whole matter?

Let us tell you that during the discussion of the motion of thanks on the President’s address on February 2, Rahul Gandhi wanted to cite excerpts from the unpublished book of former Army Chief General MM Naravane. Then Defense Minister Rajnath Singh raised objection and said that Congress MPs cannot cite the unpublished book because it is not authentic. In the initial minutes of Rahul’s speech, there was a heated argument over BJP MP Tejashwi Surya’s allegations against Congress.

After this, Congress MP Mohammad Javed presented a no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla and more than 50 MPs stood up and supported it. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the House when the no-confidence motion was presented, allowed discussion on it and scheduled a 10-hour debate. He said the Speaker has been generous with the opposition and is following the procedure. Let us tell you that a total of 118 opposition MPs have signed this proposal.
