Second day of PM Modi’s visit to Malaysia, formal welcome with guard of honor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was formally welcomed with a guard of honor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was also seen along with PM Modi at the program organized at Perdana Putra Building. PM Modi reached Malaysia on Saturday and was welcomed by Anwar Ibrahim at the airport. This is the second day of PM Modi’s two-day visit. He is holding delegation level talks with Malaysian PM Ibrahim.

After the delegation level talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Today, our cooperation is deepening in every sector, from agriculture and manufacturing to clean energy and semiconductors. We are also important partners in skill development and capacity building. Our defense and security cooperation is also becoming stronger. I once again congratulate you on your successful Chairmanship of ASEAN. We are confident that with Malaysia’s cooperation, our relations with ASEAN and The real strength of our relationship lies in the close ties between our people. The nearly 3 million Malaysians of Indian origin are a connecting bridge between our two countries.”

After reaching Malaysia, PM Modi wrote in a post on X, “I have reached Kuala Lumpur. I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome extended to me by my friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the airport. I look forward to our talks and hope to further strengthen the bonds of friendship between India and Malaysia.”

Many agreements expected between India and Malaysia

PM Modi will hold extensive talks with the Prime Minister of Malaysia on Sunday, which is expected to reach several agreements to further enhance cooperation between the two countries. Before leaving for Malaysia, Modi had said that India is looking to strengthen defense and security ties with Malaysia and expand partnership in the fields of economic and innovation. He had said, “The historical relations between India and Malaysia have witnessed steady progress in recent years. I look forward to my discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and to further strengthening our comprehensive strategic partnership. We aim to strengthen our defense and security ties, enhance our economic and innovation partnership and expand our cooperation into new areas.” India and Malaysia have upgraded their bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership in August 2024.
