Pulwama Attack 7th Anniversary: 14th February is a ‘black day’ for the Tripathi family of Maharajganj, UP, which ruined their happy life. Today is the 7th anniversary of Pulwama attack. On this day, 7 years ago, India lost 40 of its brave men in that cowardly suicide attack, among which was Red Constable Pankaj Tripathi of Maharajganj. When he returned home wrapped in the tricolor flag, he left behind his 3-month-old unborn daughter, 3-year-old son, wife and old parents. The mother could not bear the grief of her son’s departure from this world and gave up her life after just one year. What is the condition of Pankaj Tripathi’s family 7 years after his martyrdom? How does his daughter remember her martyred father Pankaj? To know this, INDIA TV had an exclusive conversation with Shubham Tripathi, younger brother of martyr Pankaj Tripathi, who with tearful eyes narrated the story of his brother’s ‘last farewell’ and the struggle of his family.

Question- Which childhood moments spent with your elder brother Shaheed Pankaj Tripathi do you remember the most and when he decided to join CRPF, what was the atmosphere at home?

answer- Shubham Tripathi said, ‘Everyone in the house was feeling proud because he had a dream of joining the army since childhood. Our elder father was also in the army and had come after retirement. Seeing him and the uniform, brother’s dream of joining the army had become clear. Every moment spent with a brother is special forever. The best thing I liked about him was that he was the most responsible person in the family.

Question- When Martyr Pankaj Tripathi used to come home on holidays, what was his favorite work?

answer- Shubham Tripathi told that when martyr Pankaj Tripathi used to come on leave, if it was time for farming, he would first go to see the fields. Whether the leave was for 10 days or a month, he used to try to meet everyone. Meet your people.

Question- Last time when Martyr Pankaj Tripathi was going back to duty after leave, what did he say to you while taking leave? What conversation did you two have?

answer- According to Shubham Tripathi, his elder brother Shaheed Pankaj Tripathi had just said, ‘I am leaving, you take care of the family, now it is your responsibility. Take care of father, mother, everyone.

Question- When you received this sad news on 14 February 2019, where were you and what was your first reaction?

answer- Shubham Tripathi said, ‘At that time I was in my hostel in Gorakhpur. Brother had left home only 4-5 days ago. Actually, his leave was ending, but our grandfather had passed away, so he got his leave extended for his funeral and then he went. The day Bhaiya was martyred, there was a very strong storm on that night, which we can never forget.

Question: After the martyrdom of your elder brother Pankaj Tripathi, what was the impact on the family, especially the parents?

answer- Shubham Tripathi told that in the absence of brother, all the responsibilities of the family fell on me. Father is a heart patient. About a year after brother’s death, mother suffered a brain hemorrhage and she also died. She started falling ill after her brother’s departure. My studies were going on at that time, but due to responsibilities I left them and started working. Right now I work in construction.

Question- Did the family get help and facilities from the government? Is there any monument or road named after him?

answer- Shubham Tripathi said, ‘Yes, I got what I wanted to get from the government. Land and some money was found in the village. Sister-in-law has got a job as a clerk in the Rural Development Department. Also, the primary school of the village has been named after him. An archway named after him has been built on the NH-24 highway leading to Sunauli border. A memorial site, playground and Amrit Sarovar have also been built in his name in the village.

Question- What program is organized on the death anniversary of martyr Pankaj Tripathi on 14th February?

answer- According to Shubham Tripathi, on February 14, wreaths are laid at the memorial and a free health camp is organized. District officials, public representatives and respected public reach there and pay homage.

Question- Tell us about the children of Martyr Pankaj Tripathi, how old are they now?

answer- Shubham Tripathi told, ‘His elder brother Shaheed Pankaj Tripathi has two children – a son and a daughter. The son is about 10 years old. When brother was martyred, the daughter was 3 months pregnant and is now in her seventh year. Children also dream of joining the army. They are still small and they often ask where dad is, so we tell them that he is on duty.

Question- What would you like to say to the people and government of the country on the anniversary of Pulwama attack?

answer- Shubham Tripathi said, ‘I would like to say that everyone should express respect towards the country and our soldiers. The morale of the soldiers should be boosted because they leave their families and are deployed there for the safety of all of us. It is the responsibility of all of us to take care of his family.
