What is the news?
Audiences have often been criticizing on social media those singers who, despite paying huge fees for live concerts, resort to ‘lip-syncing’ instead of actual singing on stage. Now veteran singer Shreya Ghoshal, famous for her magical voice, has also broken her silence on this issue. Shreya, famous for her melodious voice, has termed the practice of ‘lip-synching’ on stage as a lazy act.
“It’s just laziness, you didn’t work hard.”
“It’s just lazy work. You didn’t put in the hard work. In my personal opinion, it’s not the right way to sing,” Shreya said on Raj Shamani’s podcast. He said, “Some singers just perform on stage, without keeping in mind any set standards or purity of notes. Not maintaining the standard of your performance in a live show is also unfair to the audience. You are cheating the audience.”
Shreya expressed concern over the standards of music in the age of technology
Shreya says that if any of her singing is bad then she feels embarrassed to see it played in public. She believes that how can she make the public sing a song that she cannot hear herself? Shreya believes that even though nowadays the audience is liking things with technology (like auto-tune), a true artist should not follow the crowd. He must maintain high standards of his music.
AP Dhillon also had to move his lips heavily
After this statement of Shreya, the debate of ‘real singing’ versus ‘pretence’ has intensified in the music world. Recently, when famous Punjabi singer AP Dhillon appeared on ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, he was seen lip-synching on his superhit song ‘With You’. As soon as it became clear during the show that AP Dhillon was just lip syncing to a pre-recorded track instead of singing live, he started getting criticized on social media.
