Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla returned to the House on Thursday. On Wednesday, the opposition’s no-confidence motion against him in the Lok Sabha was defeated by voice vote. Let us tell you that Speaker Om Birla was not coming to the Lok Sabha after receiving the notice of no-confidence motion. Now after the failure of the no-confidence motion, he has returned to the Lok Sabha today. Om Birla addressed the Lok Sabha on Thursday and completely rejected the allegations against him with facts in front of the members.

Addressing the House, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said- “For the third time in the parliamentary history of independent India, the Lok Sabha discussed the no-confidence motion. I have always tried to ensure that every member in the House expresses his views on issues within the rules and procedures.”

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla said – “The Lok Sabha discussed the motion for my removal for 12 hours, where the opposition raised concerns over impartiality. The opposition also said that its voice was suppressed in the House. This House represents the will of 140 crore Indian people. I have always tried to ensure that every member in the House gets an opportunity to express his/her views as per the rules and procedures. I have also always encouraged those who are reluctant to participate in the proceedings of the House. Hesitating.”

Speaker Om Birla said- “I have always tried to ensure that the House runs impartially and as per the rules. The day the Opposition gave notice of the motion to remove me from the post of Speaker, I stayed away from the proceedings of the House. Thank you to all those who supported me or gave critical views during the debate on the motion against me. The chair does not belong to any one person but is a symbol of the prestige of the House. I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me by the House.”

Speaker Om Birla also responded to the allegation of stopping Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi from speaking in the Lok Sabha. He said- “Every member in the House has the right to speak as per the rules. No one is above the rules in the Lok Sabha. They apply to everyone. Even the PM, ministers have to give notice under the rules of the House to make statements.”

Om Birla further said, “Some members believed that the Leader of the Opposition is above the House and can speak on any topic, but no one has such a privilege and everyone has the right to speak as per the rules.” These rules have been made by the House itself and I have inherited them.
