Tej Pratap announced help
In a post on social media platform X, Tej Pratap Yadav talked about the support of Rajpal Yadav. Tej Pratap Yadav wrote in his post on I am providing financial assistance to his family.”
What is the whole matter?
Actually, Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles started in the year 2010, when he took a loan of ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Private Limited for his directorial debut film ‘Aata Pata Lapata’ (2012). The film failed at the box office, due to which payments could not be made and the matter reached the court. In April 2018, a magistrate court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha Yadav under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
6 months jail sentence
The actor was sentenced to six months of simple jail after seven checks given to the complainant bounced, which was also upheld by the sessions court in early 2019. After this, a revision petition was filed in the Delhi High Court, but with time his problems increased. In June 2024, the court temporarily suspended the sentence and directed him to take “honest and concrete steps” to repay the outstanding amount, which had risen to nearly ₹9 crore. However, due to continuous missed deadlines and non-fulfillment of promises, the court’s stance became stricter.
Why was the punishment given?
By October 2025, Rajpal Yadav deposited ₹75 lakh through two demand drafts, but the court found that most of the amount was still outstanding. In the same month, Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma ordered the surrender, saying that no one can always be lenient, no matter his celebrity status. On February 4, 2026, the court rejected a last-minute petition seeking a week’s time to raise funds. The judge said that Rajpal Yadav had failed to fulfill his commitments about 20 times in the past also. The next day on 5 February 2026, despite his lawyer presenting a new check of ₹25 lakh and a new payment schedule, the court refused to withdraw the surrender order. After this, at around 4 pm on the same day, Rajpal Yadav surrendered in Tihar Jail to serve his six-month sentence.
