Chennai: Actor and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay made a big announcement on Sunday for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Starting his first electoral innings, Vijay announced that he will contest from two assembly constituencies – Chennai’s Perambur and Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) East seats. Addressing the meeting of party officials, the TVK chief said that the name of the candidate on these seats will be ‘C. Joseph Vijay’.
Prominent faces got tickets
Addressing a meeting of party officials, the TVK chief released the list of candidates, which includes several key team members. Senior leaders including N Anand, Adhav Arjun, R Arunraj, CTR Nirmal Kumar and KA Sengkottaiyan have been fielded from important seats like T Nagar, Villivakkam, Gobichettipalayam and Tirupparankundram.
Fight between TVK and DMK: Vijay
Vijay administered oath against ‘corruption’ from his party’s candidates. “Our candidates are no different from me; we have to win this election to end the DMK dictatorship,” he said.
The TVK chief further said that they have chosen candidates who will stand with the people. “I won’t be able to be everywhere, so I’ve chosen candidates I can trust,” he said.
Describing the election as a straight contest, Vijay said the fight would be between his Janata alliance and the ruling DMK led by MK Stalin, which he termed a “compromise alliance”. He said, “This is a two-way fight between our people’s team and Stalin sir’s team.”
Vijay released party manifesto
Vijay introduced a special “guarantee” agenda for the youth, which emphasized education and employment. Apart from this, the manifesto promises to completely free the state from drugs, unsecured loan of up to Rs 20 lakh for students from class 12th to PhD, transparency in government recruitment, unemployment allowance, internship and special assistance to new entrepreneurs.
