Bihar Election Result 2025: The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar has registered a landslide victory in the state assembly elections. Last time the exit polls were proved wrong but this time the NDA has won a big victory as per the exit polls also. Exit polls had predicted the NDA’s victory, but the NDA’s huge performance has surprised many exit pollsters. On one hand, there has been an unexpected defeat of the opposition grand alliance which has shocked the public with its decision. In such a situation, the question arises that what was the reason that NDA got such a big victory.

Bihar assembly elections
Know the five main reasons which made NDA a “super star”
- ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ wave of sympathy for Nitish Kumar
For Nitish Kumar, who has led Bihar for close to two decades, this election was an important test of his political ability and public trust. Nitish Kumar, once known as “good governance babu” for taking the state out of the so-called “Jungle Raj”, recently faced criticism from Palturam for suffering from physical and mental fatigue. However, his core voters who became his core base, which are-EBC + Kurmi + women voters, did not change their loyalty towards Nitish this time too, while Nitish kept swinging between RJD and BJP.
Despite being called a “Paltu Ram” mental patient by the opposition, Nitish retained his loyal base on the basis of his record of development, better infrastructure and inclusive governance in the post-Jungle Raj era. Additionally, there was speculation that this might be his last election, and there were also rumors that he might be removed as Chief Minister (which was later rejected by the Prime Minister), which also provoked a wave of sympathy. Voters who once questioned his acumen have now come to see him as an experienced and stable leader.

As soon as NDA’s massive victory became clear, the same sentiment was visible on the streets of Patna and huge posters were put up declaring Nitish Kumar as the central face of Bihar. One of his catchy posters, which read “Tiger Abhi Zinda Hai”, showed that in the political story of Bihar, Nitish Kumar is not just the hero – he is the whole story.
- Heavy turnout voted for the current government
The increasing participation of women played a decisive role in swinging the elections towards NDA. After the alliance announced a financial assistance scheme that would deposit Rs 10,000 in the accounts of over 1.5 crore women, more than 2.5 crore women voted, more than men. The gender gap in voting was shocking. Women voted 71.78 percent, while men voted only 62.98 percent. Women voted more than men by 14 percent in seven districts, and by more than 10 percent in 10 other districts. Patna was the only district where the number of male voters was more than female voters. Nitish’s pro-women decisions attracted a large number of women voters, who voted to ensure that he remains in power in the state.
- chirag paswan factor
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) emerged as one of the biggest successes of the election, at one point leading on 23 of the 29 seats it contested, with a strike rate of over 75%. After contesting the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections alone, Chirag Paswan’s return to the NDA is another significant achievement in his budding political career. After winning all five seats contested by his party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Paswan maintained that momentum in the assembly elections as well. His focused strategy, targeted seat selection and energetic campaign strengthened both his party’s position and the NDA’s overall seat tally.
Chirag Paswan’s performance reflects the well-thought-out social engineering of the NDA. While the BJP and JD(U) united their traditional supporters, the LJP helped the alliance make inroads in Dalit and MBC areas where the RJD had earlier dominated. His influence was particularly notable in central and western Bihar, where the party developed strong local networks.
- Fear of return of ‘Jungle Raj’
Prime Minister Modi’s mention of ‘Katta, Dunali, Rangdari’ (guns and anarchy) in his election campaign reminded voters of the so-called jungle raj that will return if the RJD returns to power. Modi’s popularity in Bihar further strengthened this message in the minds of voters. The election story turned into a simple choice: ‘There are ten thousand elections, on the other side there is a fallen government.’ Election observers say the higher turnout among women voters was also to ensure that the days of ‘Jungle Raj’ associated with the reigns of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi do not return.
- Big step for public welfare
The government’s decision to increase the old age pension for 1.2 crore senior citizens from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 proved to be a major positive decision for the ruling NDA government. Also, with a sum of Rs 10,000 deposited in their bank accounts, the women chose to trust Nitish Kumar’s promise instead of accepting Tejashwi Yadav’s promise of Rs 2,500 per month if he wins.

Bihar assembly elections
The combination of welfare schemes, strategic alliances, effective messaging and Nitish Kumar’s political tenacity has resulted in the most credible election victory in recent Bihar history, strengthening the NDA’s dominance and confirming the Chief Minister’s continued relevance in state politics.
How was the last assembly election?
In the 2020 assembly elections, the BJP contested 110 seats and won 74 seats, giving it 19.8% of the votes. JD(U) contested 115 seats and won 43 seats, giving it 15.7% of the votes, while Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) won four of the seven seats, giving it 0.9% of the total vote share. In contrast, in the 2015 elections, the grand alliance of JDU, RJD and Congress had won a landslide victory by winning 178 out of 243 seats.
RJD emerged as the largest party with 80 seats, followed by JDU with 71 and Congress at second place with 27 seats. The BJP-led NDA got only 58 seats, while the BJP got 53 seats, a major setback in rural Bihar.
