The movie ‘The Rise of Ashoka’ was set a long time ago. Even though its release is late and the subject matter is old, the movie is still relevant today. This movie unfolds the story of hardships of some communities who were exploited due to caste.
Ashoka (Satish), the protagonist of this film, is a young man belonging to the barber community. His father’s (B. Suresh) wish is that he should study and become a government officer. One day the father, who works hard day in and day out, gets a shock because his son should never become a barber. The son decides to quit his government job and become a barber! So what was the reason for Ashoka’s decision? What happens next? Whether he gets a government job or not, we have to watch the movie to know.

The first half of the film is made as realistic as possible. But in the second half, after the mass elements start appearing more and more, the movie goes a bit off track. After falling into the framework of commercial formulas, this too feels like a normal hodibadi movie. Mass, spice elements seem to have overtaken the story’s aspiration. Because of that, the opportunity to make a different movie was lost. Despite that, ‘The Rise of Ashoka’ is seen as an honest effort.
