The Election Commission has announced the dates of Kerala Assembly elections. Voting will be held on all 140 seats here on April 9. The election results will be released on May 4. There is about a month left for voting here and the results will be announced after 50 days. In this context, it can be said that the new government will be formed after about two months. The tenure of the current Left Democratic Front (LDF) government led by Pinarayi Vijayan in Kerala is till May 23, 2026. In such a situation, the new government will be formed even before this. The MATRIZE-IANS opinion poll conducted before the elections has predicted a close contest between UDF and LDF.

Left party CPIM is in power in Kerala. This party got 62 seats in the elections held in 2021. CPIM, with the help of other LDF allies, formed the government and Vijayan became the Chief Minister. CPI, which won 17 seats, also supported him. Apart from this, LDF and Kerala Congress had got 5-5 seats. Janata Dal Secular and NCP also won 2 seats each. Apart from this, 6 local parties are also included in this alliance, who got one seat each.

Close contest in MATRIZE-IANS opinion poll

In the MATRIZE-IANS opinion poll, LDF, an alliance of leftist parties, is expected to get 61 to 71 seats. To form government in Kerala, it is necessary to win at least 71 seats. At the same time, UDF can get 58 to 69 seats. The BJP-led alliance is expected to get a maximum of two seats. In such a situation, it is clear that there may be a close contest between LDF and UDF in Kerala. If the Congress-led UDF performs well, the party may come to power here. At the same time, it is important for BJP to create its vote bank here. Even if the candidates of BJP and its allies give a tough competition to other candidates, it will be considered good news for the party.
