New Delhi: There is no hope for the people of the country to get respite from the harsh winter. There is a forecast of severe cold in North India on January 8 and rain in South India. At the same time, a warning has been issued about dense fog in the morning in many states of the country including Delhi. Cold day like conditions are likely to prevail in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on 8th.

According to the Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures are being recorded between 5°-10°C in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, West Bengal and Sikkim. The lowest minimum temperature of 3.3°C was recorded in Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) in the plains of India. It is harsh winter in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad. Temperatures are being recorded below zero at most places in the hilly states. There will be cold like situation in all these states.

Dense fog will fall in these states

Dense to very dense fog is very likely in the morning over East Rajasthan, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh during 08-10 January. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may experience dense fog till 12th.

Warning of heavy rain in these states

The Meteorological Department said that there is a high possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at some places over Tamil Nadu during January 8-11 and over Kerala and Mahe on January 10.

Yellow alert of dense fog in Delhi

It is harsh winter in Delhi-NCR also. Delhi has been put on yellow alert for Thursday (January 8) as the weather department has predicted dense fog in Delhi. This will reduce visibility in the morning. The minimum temperature is likely to reach 8 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature can remain around 18 degrees Celsius. In the morning the main wind at the surface will be from the west and the wind speed can reach up to 10 km per hour. In the afternoon the wind speed will increase to 16 km per hour from north-west direction.
