Drones are playing a big role in the battlefield today around the world. Be it the ongoing war between Iran and America-Israel or between Russia and Ukraine, or the military clash between India and Pakistan last year. Drones played an important role in all these wars. In such a situation, anti-drone systems are also in constant demand to prevent drone attacks. In this sequence, presenting another example of increasing participation of private companies in the defense sector, a company named Flying Wedge has successfully tested India’s first Autonomous Swarm Interceptor, FWD. The company has named this interceptor “Yama” (Yamraj).
The war can be won with anti-drone system
Actually, an important news came to light in the war between America, Israel and Iran. It was that Iran’s 20 thousand dollar drone dodged the 4M dollar US Patriot interceptor. This has started indicating that future wars can be won with better anti-drone systems. Focusing on this, Bengaluru-based private defense company Flying Wedge Defense and Aerospace has successfully tested India’s first autonomous swarm interceptor, FWD YAMA.
What are the features of YAMA?
FWD YAMA is specifically designed for flying warheads and drone swarms. With an estimated cost of ten thousand dollars per unit, interception is possible at up to 100 times less cost than the Yama Autonomous Interceptor. The company has also released a video of the first successful test in which the Yama drone is seen successfully intercepting and destroying swarms.
