Dehradun: Uttarakhand has achieved a significant milestone in the field of renewable energy by taking the installed solar power capacity in the state to more than 1 gigawatt (1000 MW). As per the latest data, the total installed solar capacity in the state has crossed approximately 1027.87 MW, which shows the state’s commitment towards clean and green energy.
CM Dhami praised PM Modi
On crossing the 1 gigawatt mark of solar energy capacity in the state, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that this achievement is the result of the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his clear policy towards renewable energy. The Chief Minister said that inspired by the vision of “self-reliant India” and green energy that Prime Minister Modi put before the country, solar energy has been given the form of a mass movement in Uttarakhand. Today, thousands of youth and local entrepreneurs have got new self-employment opportunities due to the coordination of Central Government schemes and active initiatives of the State Government. He expressed confidence that under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, Uttarakhand will further strengthen its identity among the leading states of the country in the field of green energy.
This achievement has been possible through various schemes and initiatives including grid connected rooftop solar projects, ground mounted solar plants, solar plants on government buildings, solar pumps for agriculture sector, solar schemes for domestic consumers and commercial and industrial sectors.
Uttarakhand achieved milestone in solar power production
The total installed solar capacity of the state mainly includes ground mounted 397 MW, rooftop solar power plant (PM Suryaghar) 241 MW, Mukhyamantri Saur Swarozgar Yojana 137 MW, commercial net metering 110 MW, captive solar power plant 51 MW, 37 MW on canal top and canal bank and 26 MW solar power plants on government buildings. At present, under the Mukhyamantri Solar Swarozgar Yojana, plants of more than 100 MW capacity, 30 MW captive solar power plants and 13.5 MW solar power plants are being installed on government buildings. These efforts have not only increased clean energy production but also reduced carbon emissions, energy self-sufficiency and employment generation at the local level.

Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) has made a special contribution in this historic achievement. UREDA has played a leading role in implementation of solar energy projects in the state, public awareness, technical guidance and effective operation of various government schemes. Continuous efforts to deliver solar energy solutions to remote and mountainous areas have made this achievement possible.
Government gives subsidy
Initiatives like favorable policy environment, subsidy provision, simple approval process and encouragement of private investment to promote solar energy in the state have also given positive results. Uttarakhand is rapidly strengthening its identity among the leading solar energy states of the country. The government aims to further increase solar energy capacity in the future, encourage solar solutions in remote areas and increase participation of common citizens. This achievement is a strong step towards sustainable development, environmental protection and energy security.
