AR Rahman was stuck in legal trouble for a long time regarding the song ‘Veera Raja Veera’ from the film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2′. Intervening in the matter, the Supreme Court issued an order, after which the musicians agreed to the change. He has admitted that the song was inspired by the Dagar Brothers’ family’s traditional composition ‘Shiv Stuti’. The court has given strict instructions that this change in the credits of the song should be made within 5 weeks.
Know what is the matter related to the song ‘Veera Raja Veera’
Classical singer Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar had claimed that ‘Veera Raja Veera’ was inspired by the traditional composition ‘Shiv Stuti’. He claimed that the tune, rhythm and music of the song comes from the Dagarvani tradition. On the other hand, the composer argued that his song is an original composition and copyright cannot be claimed on elements of any classical tradition. After this, the matter gained momentum and Rehman was stuck in legal trouble.
Court settles, musicians will give credit
On February 20, Rahman’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the court that the musician, late maestro N. Faiyazuddin Dagar and Ustad N. Zahiruddin Dagar is ready to give credit in the song. Taking this into consent record, the court has directed the musician that this change in the credit of the song should be visible on all social media and OTT platforms within 5 weeks. Apart from this, the court also disposed of the special leave petition filed in the case.
