New Delhi : The Supreme Court has recently delivered an important judgment in favor of Karnataka regarding the Mekedatu Multi-Purpose Project, and Mr. Shyam Dewan, a senior advocate who ably argued for the state, was felicitated in the national capital, New Delhi.

In the wake of the ruling in favor of Karnataka in the Supreme Court on the Mekedatu scheme, Senior Advocate Mr. Shyam Diwan was appointed by Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Sivakumar honored in New Delhi. The Tamil Nadu government’s petition seeking a stay on the project was dismissed by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, without intervening at this stage, directed that the project be submitted for review by the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and the Central Water Commission (CWC).

The verdict has given Karnataka a green light to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the project, which is critical to Bengaluru’s drinking water and electricity supply. It was Diwan’s able argument that gave the state a turning point in this legal battle.
