Video: Snowfall continues in Himachal, landslides in many areas, Mandi-Kullu road closed

There is continuous snowfall in the higher reaches of Manali and Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. There were no signs of reduction in intermittent snowfall on Friday also. Atal Tunnel, Solang and Rohtang Pass were covered with 90 to 120 cm thick snow cover, while the Bhuntar-Manikaran road was closed due to heavy landslides. The Kullu district administration has restricted vehicular movement on the Manali-Rohtang road and vehicles have been allowed only up to Nehru Kund.

Snowfall and rain in the hilly areas are affecting the plains as well. Chandigarh recorded a significant drop in temperature due to rain for the second consecutive day. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature here fell to 18.8 degrees Celsius, which is ten degrees less than normal. Rain also occurred in many other parts of the two states, including Ambala and Panchkula in Haryana and Mohali, Patiala and Rupnagar in Punjab. It rained in many areas of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday also. The maximum temperature in Amritsar, Punjab was recorded at 23.7 degrees Celsius, which is four degrees below normal.

A video of landslide has surfaced from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. In this video it can be seen that big stones are falling on the road along with sandy soil. Along with this, light rain is also occurring. At the end of the video, a huge amount of debris is visible on the road. At the same time, vehicles are seen parked on both sides of the debris.

Damage to National Highway near Manali

Intermittent snowfall is occurring in Lahaul Valley. It is cut off from other cities and efforts are underway to clear the Bhuntar-Manikaran road. Many vehicles are stuck here in Jachni due to the huge pile of debris. There were also reports of damage to a portion of the National Highway near Manali and rock fall near a petrol pump near Bhoothnath Bridge in Kullu district. People living in the middle and high mountains are facing winter-like conditions this spring, as the temperature has dropped significantly due to rain and snowfall.

Meteorological Department issued alert

The Shimla Meteorological Department on Monday issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and strong winds in isolated areas of the four districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi, and predicted rain in the state till March 25. According to the Meteorological Department, a new Western Disturbance may affect North-West India from March 22, and another active disturbance is expected from March 26.
