Indian cricket team’s veteran batsman Virat Kohli has achieved a big achievement during the first ODI against New Zealand cricket team. In fact, he completed 28,000 runs in his international cricket career when he scored his 25th run during his innings at the BCA Stadium in Baroda. He has become only the second batsman from India and the third overall in the world to touch this figure. Let’s take a look at his statistics.

Kohli completed 28,000 runs in 624 innings of 557 matches. Kohli joins the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. Sachin had completed 28,000 runs in 644 innings. Sangakkara did this feat in his 666th innings. Let us tell you that Tendulkar has scored the maximum 34,357 runs in international cricket. He is followed by Sangakkara with 28,016. Apart from Sachin and Kohli, no other Indian batsman has scored even 25,000 runs in international cricket.

Kohli’s test career was like this

Kohli now plays only ODI cricket. In his Test career, he scored 9,230 runs in 210 innings of 123 matches at an average of 46.85. Meanwhile, his highest score was 254 not out. Kohli had scored 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He played his first test against the West Indies cricket team. In India, only Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13,265) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122) have scored more Test runs than him.

Kohli has scored more than 14,500 runs in 309 ODI matches at an average of over 58, scoring 53 centuries and 76 half-centuries. He is the second highest run scorer in the 50 over format. Only Tendulkar (18,426) is ahead of him. Kohli ended his T20 international career with 4,188 runs in 125 matches. He retired from this format after the T20 World Cup 2024.
