Rafale Jets Make in India: French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday stressed the need to deepen defense cooperation with India and said that now Rafale jet will also be manufactured under ‘Make in India’. He said that both the countries want to take forward the Rafale jet program. Macron said the Rafale jets would be co-produced in India, and would form the basis for future orders. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the India AI Summit, Macron said the two countries have a ‘special global strategic partnership’ that goes far beyond normal defense ties.
‘Make in India will be the main part in the new order’
Macron confirmed that India has recently expressed its desire to place a new order for Rafale aircraft and wants to further strengthen industrial cooperation around this platform. He said, ‘We want to move further on Rafale. A few days ago, India has expressed its desire to order a new batch of 114 Rafale aircraft and also to produce them. ‘Make in India’ will be the main part in this new order. He described this as a new step forward that will strengthen and move the existing cooperation forward.
‘Cooperation can be increased in other major defense areas also’
Macron also said that a similar cooperation model as Rafale could be used in other major defense areas, including submarines. Macron also talked about expanding partnerships in aerospace, which is part of a new era of strategic and industrial cooperation between India and France. He said that France is committed to promoting more and more local content in India. Emphasizing France’s commitment, Macron said the same approach would be applied in the Rafale programme. He said, ‘We are very committed to have as many Indian components as possible and as many important devices as possible to be made in India. You can trust us.
