Controversy is increasing over the letter written by America’s New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to Delhi riots accused Umar Khalid. Now the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party have expressed strong displeasure regarding this entire matter. The BJP has accused Mayor Zohran Mamdani of interfering in India’s internal affairs. BJP has also targeted Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in this matter.

What is the whole matter?

In fact, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has recently written a letter to Umar Khalid, lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Mamdani wrote in this letter – “Dear Omar, I often remember your words in which you were told not to let bitterness dominate you. It was a pleasure to meet your parents. We are all worried about you.” Let us tell you that Omar Khalid’s father Qasim Rasool Ilyas had traveled to America a few days ago and met Mamdani.

What did BJP accuse Rahul?

BJP has also targeted Congress MP Rahul Gandhi regarding this entire matter. BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari said in a post on Rahul Gandhi-How does the anti-India lobby work?,

2024: Jan Schakowsky meets Rahul Gandhi in the United States along with anti-India activist Ilhan Omar.

January 2025: He re-introduced the ‘Combating International Islamophobia Act’, which explicitly names India and accuses it of repression on the Muslim community.

2026: The same Jane Schakowsky writes a letter to the Government of India expressing concerns about Umar Khalid, who has been charged under UAPA in serious cases related to riots and violence.

Whenever anti-India talks are spread abroad, one name comes up again and again – Rahul Gandhi. Those who want to weaken India, defame its elected government and weaken its anti-terrorism laws, they all gather around him.”

India will not tolerate this – BJP

On the letter written by Mamdani to Omar Khalid, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said – “If India’s sovereignty is challenged, 140 crore Indians will stand united under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The people of India have full faith in the judiciary of the country. If anyone comes out in support of any accused and interferes in the internal affairs of India, the country will not tolerate it. Who is this outsider, who questions our democracy and judiciary? And that too in support of a person who wants to break India? This is not fair.”
