BJP on Tuesday officially announced the names of its 2 candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections from Odisha. The party has fielded Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar as candidates. This announcement was made by the Central Committee of BJP, which has confirmed the candidature of both the leaders.
This decision of the party is being considered an important strategic step for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The BJP leadership has expressed full confidence in both the candidates. Central leaders say that both Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar have political experience and organizational strength, which will prove beneficial for the party in the elections.
Who is Sujit Kumar?
Sujit Kumar is a veteran politician from Odisha and has also been a member of the Rajya Sabha in the past. He recently left Biju Janata Dal and joined Bharatiya Janata Party. Sujit Kumar was born on 17 November 1975 in Bhawanipatna, Odisha. He is a lawyer by profession and has also practiced in the Supreme Court and High Court. He has received advanced education from Harvard University and Oxford University.
Sujit Kumar was earlier a member of Biju Janata Dal and was also a Rajya Sabha MP from the same party. He later left BJD and joined BJP, and is now representing Rajya Sabha as a BJP representative. He also has experience in policy-making, social issues and development work. Sujit Kumar is an educated, experienced and active parliamentarian who has played many roles in politics, law and social service.
Who is Manmohan Samal?
Manmohan Samal is a senior Indian politician from Odisha and currently the President of the Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He has been leading the state unit of the party for a long time and is considered an influential face in Odisha politics.
Manmohan Samal was born on 15 April 1959 in Bhadrak, Odisha. He has been the state president of BJP’s Odisha unit since 2023 and has served on this post several times till now. He started his political career in student politics and gradually rose up in the party. Samal has been a Rajya Sabha MP before and has also served as MLA and Minister of Odisha Legislative Assembly. As a minister, he held departments like Revenue, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare. Manmohan Samal is known for his party leadership and organizational work.
Now preparations intensified at the state level
After getting the green signal from the central leadership, preparations are now expected to speed up at the state level. Party workers will be active at the grassroots level and the election strategy will be taken forward. Due to this step of BJP, other political parties may also have to rethink their strategy. Now political activities are likely to intensify further regarding Rajya Sabha elections.
