Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat addressed an eminent group of intellectuals, scholars, editors, writers and entrepreneurs during his visit to Assam as part of the centenary celebrations of the RSS. In an interactive session, he discussed in detail the civilizational vision of the Sangh, contemporary national concerns and the ongoing programs in the North-East. He emphasized that anyone who is proud of India and loves the nation is a Hindu, regardless of his personal method of worship.

India and Hindu synonyms

He clarified that Hindu is not just a religious term, but a civilizational identity rooted in thousands of years of cultural continuity. He said, ‘India and Hindu are synonymous.’ He further said that India does not need any official declaration to be a Hindu nation. Its civilizational nature already reflects this.

Establishment of an organization to make India a world leader

Explaining the basic philosophy of RSS, Sarsanghchalak said that the organization was founded not to oppose or harm anyone, but to focus on Vyakti Nirman (individual character building) and contribute to making India a world leader. He urged people to understand the Sangh by visiting the shakha, rather than relying on preconceived notions. He said, ‘The method of uniting India amidst diversity is called RSS.’

Emphasis given on five major social changes

He spoke in detail about five major social changes – Panch Parivartan: Social Harmony, Kutumb Prabodhan (Family Awakening), Civic Discipline, Self-reliance and Environment Protection. In these, he laid special emphasis on strengthening the institution of family and urged every family to cherish the stories of their ancestors and instill responsibility and cultural pride in the younger generation.

Also talked about illegal infiltration and balanced population policy

Addressing concerns over demographic change and cultural preservation in Assam, he called for confidence, vigilance and a strong attachment to one’s land and identity. He spoke on issues such as illegal immigration, the need for a balanced population policy and the importance of opposing divisive religious conversions. He also advised responsible use of social media, especially among the youth.

Emphasis also laid on the important role of volunteers

Mohan Bhagwat highlighted the important role of RSS Swayamsevaks in the freedom struggle and recalled the contribution of countless Swayamsevaks across the country during the Non-Cooperation Movement, the imprisonment of Dr. Hedgewar in the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement of 1942.
