New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday explained why Pakistan suddenly became worried about ceasefire during ‘Operation Vermillion’. He said that all three armies had received instructions for movement, and Pakistan had connected the dots. General Dwivedi said, ‘On the morning of May 10, we had received such instructions to the 3 armies, and Pakistan had connected these dots. He understood that so he called ceasefire. They came to know from where the ships, warships, pivots, aircraft and movements had taken place. They found out through the images, so this was a big turning moment.
‘If Pakistan had made any mistake, we would have started a ground operation’
Answering another question related to Operation Sindoor, General Dwivedi said, ‘As far as nuclear rhetoric is concerned, I would like to say that there was no discussion on nuclear during the talks between DGMOs. Whatever nuclear rhetoric was made, it was made by the leaders of Pakistan or the general public there. I have no indication that anything like this has been said by the army. General Dwivedi said that in those 88 hours, you saw that the deployment of the army to enhance the conventional space was such that if Pakistan made any mistake, we were fully prepared to launch ground operations.
‘All three terrorists of Pahalgam attack were killed in Operation Mahadev’
General Dwivedi said, ‘The situation on the northern border or LAC is stable but caution is necessary. The situation is becoming normal due to high level talks and confidence building measures. Here, activities like grass grazing, hydrotherapy camps have started again and our deployment is strong and balanced. The situation in the Western Front and Jammu and Kashmir is sensitive but under control. He said that in 2025, 31 terrorists were killed, out of which 65 percent were of Pakistani origin. General Dwivedi said that all three terrorists of Pahalgam attack were killed in Operation Mahadev and now active local terrorists are in single digits.
