Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwar on Tuesday rejected claims of any division in the ruling Congress amid talks of leadership change in the state, saying the party is united and there is no threat to the government. While not giving much importance to the speculations about change of leadership and cabinet reshuffle, senior Congress leader Parameshwara said while talking to reporters that such discussions are only in the media and there has been no discussion in this regard in the legislature party.

Speculation about change of Chief Minister

In Karnataka, on completion of two and a half years of Congress government in November, there is speculation about change of Chief Minister in the state, which some people are calling ‘November Revolution’. There is also speculation about cabinet reshuffle in the state. According to Congress sources, if the party high command approves the cabinet reshuffle, it will mean that the current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will continue in his post and the possibility of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar taking over the post will be eliminated.

We have not decided anything within the party – Parmeshwar

Responding to a question related to leadership change and cabinet reshuffle, Parameshwara said, “Who is making all this speculation? Inside the party we have not decided anything, we have not discussed anything. The CLP (Congress Legislature Party) has neither been called nor discussed about leadership change or expansion, nothing like this is happening inside the party. It is only in the media outside, a lot of speculations are being made.” “Naturally, if you (media) come and ask for my reaction, I will say something and that’s how all this (speculation) is going on. I don’t think there is any discussion in this direction within the party,” he said.

I will follow the decision of the high command – Siddaramaiah

Let us inform you that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Monday that he will comply with the decision of the Congress high command regarding the reshuffle of his cabinet. The Chief Minister reminded that the party leadership had asked him to do this (cabinet reshuffle) process four-five months ago, but he had insisted on completing 2.5 years of the government.

It is said that there was an alleged agreement between Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in which there was a provision for changing the Chief Minister every two and a half years. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Siddaramaiah said, “Four-five months ago, the high command had asked me to make a reshuffle. I had said, it is not appropriate now, let’s do it after two and a half years, and the high command had accepted. Now on November 20, the government will complete two and a half years. Whatever the high command says, I will agree.” (input-language)
